A little history…

The Big-Eyed Bees started when Charlie Breuninger said to Earl Matthews, “Hey, ya wanna do a project?” Earl had been giving guitar and bass lessons to Ben and Carl Breuninger, and sometimes they’d have lessons in Earl’s studio. This was cool, especially for Charlie, who loved all the knobs and loud, shiny stuff.

Charlie played in bands and wrote songs and recorded some demos back in the day, but took a short 20-year break until the kids inspired him to dust off the old flattop. Next thing you know, he started writing songs and got Earl and the boys to help record them.

Then they enlisted Rob Chirnside, with whom Charlie had played years ago in the LiveWires, to play drums. Rob, aka Box Turtle Bob, also puts the itch in the Witch Doctors, the official blues band of the Big-Eyed Bees.

And now the Big-Eyed Bees have turned into an all-ages community project! The Honeydrippin' Horns (Joe DiIorio, Kelley Maule, Joe Anderson, and Steve "Tots" Sharp) are current or former students at Avon Grove High School, as are bassist Charlie Peck and vocalist Liz Malloy. Lizzie's dad Jim teaches music at AGHS and arranges our vocals. And jazz beast Dave Renz brings it on sax.

How about that?
